Malasaña and Chueca
Malasaña and Chueca have been populated by the city’s young, creative, hip and artsy crowds. By day, it is a paradise for those shopping for street fashion, artisan craftwork, antique shops and young disigners work. At night the pavements are occupied by tables of bars and restaurants as well as people just spending time with friends.
Located near the university campus, its population is quite young and studentish, too.

Centro, Sol, La Latina
This is the symbolic center of the city, an important shopping and social meeting area, with a high concentration of bars, pubs, restaurants and hotels, theaters and art galleries.
At the same time it is a typically Mediterranean quarter, characterised by narrow lanes and colorful buildings from the 18th century. This is the place to go for tapas, stylish bars full of bohemian young people and Madrid’s biggest flea market. The quarter is dominated by the royal residence and other representative buildings from the golden age of the Spanish Empire.

Gran Vía is the Spanish capital’s most splendid avenue. It is lined by tall, lavishly ornated banking, insurance and shopping palaces from the early 1900s.

Madrid Río
Madrid Río is a vast leisure and cultural spot parallel to the River Manzanares, which, thanks to its restoration, has recovered its surprising fauna. Historic monuments, leisure and culture facilities are situated alongside the riverbed that has recovered its biodiversity in giant leaps.
Madrid Río is also home to the Puente de Toledo and Puente del Rey Esplanade, where the Spanish national football team celebrated its victories in the World Cups. If the plan for the day is to go shopping, you must visit the impressive Plaza Río Shopping Center.

Every year around May 15th, Madrid celebrates its patron saint, San Isidro Labrador. A packed program of events featuring concerts, shows and an endless range of activities is held. In the week-long festivities where Madrileños dress up and dance chotis in the streets all around San Isidro.
